Post-Procedure Recovery Guidelines for the First 24 Hours

In the first 24 hours following your procedure, avoid the following:

  • Eating for at least 2 hours, or until the anesthesia has worn off
  • Vigorous physical exercise

  • Drinking through a straw or engaging in any sucking motions

  • Smoking or using any form of tobacco products

  • Consuming alcohol

  • Eating extremely hot, cold, or spicy foods
  • Using strong mouthwashes that contain alcohol

We also recommend the following for a smooth recovery:

  • Take a non-aspirin pain reliever as needed to ease tenderness or discomfort, such as Ibuprofen, Advil, or Tylenol

  • Maintain a well-balanced, soft diet during the initial recovery period

  • Rinse your mouth with a warm saltwater solution 3 times daily (mix ½ teaspoon of salt with 8 oz. of warm water)
  • Brush your teeth very lightly in the treated area for the first few days. You can resume gentle flossing the following day and return to regular brushing and flossing after 1 week

  • Use all prescribed rinses and medications as directed by your provider
