Please review the following post-operative care instructions if you have had immediate dentures with extractions:
Avoid operating any motor vehicle for 24 hours after your procedure if you received any form of sedation.
Although extractions have been performed, there is no need to change any gauze. Your dentures will provide the necessary protection to support proper healing. It is normal to experience some bleeding around the denture, and this will gradually subside within the first few hours following your treatment.
Eat soft foods and drink without using a straw for at least 24 hours following your procedure.
After 24 hours, you can gently begin brushing your remaining teeth and rinsing your mouth 3 to 4 times daily with lukewarm salt water. Continue this routine for four to five days, as it can help relieve tightness in the cheeks or limitations in opening your mouth.
Take all medications as prescribed by our dentist to support the healing process.
Apply an ice bag to the outside of your face at 15-minute intervals to help reduce swelling. Swelling is common and may persist for four to seven days.
Fragments of bone may work their way through the gum as part of the healing process. Allow these fragments to work out on their own or contact our practice if they do not resolve on their own or become painful.
