Crown
Lengthening

Crown Lengthening, Soft Tissue Grafting, and Bone Grafting General Instructions

  • Take prescribed pain medications and antibiotics as directed.

  • Apply ice packs to the surgical site: 20 minutes on, followed by 10 minutes off, repeating this process for the first 24 hours.

  • Avoid consuming extremely hot or cold foods and beverages.

  • Follow the rinsing instructions provided by your dentist.

Activity:

Rest and avoid strenuous activities on the day of your procedure and for the next 2-3 days.

Discomfort and Infection:

Taking prescribed antibiotics and pain medications as directed will help reduce swelling and discomfort while promoting healing.

Swelling and Bleeding:

Swelling and bleeding are common after periodontal surgery. Apply gentle pressure to manage bleeding and use ice packs to minimize swelling. Alternate between treated areas and rest periods for optimal comfort.

Oral Hygiene:

Maintain your regular oral hygiene routine in untreated areas. For treated areas, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean only the chewing surfaces. Avoid flossing, undiluted mouthwash, saltwater, or peroxide rinses in these areas for the first week. Refrain from using water irrigation devices, such as Waterpiks, for one month. Gently swab treated areas with Peridex using a Q-tip at bedtime, in the morning, and after meals.

Eating and Drinking:

Wait until the effects of anesthesia have completely worn off before eating. For the next 3-5 days, focus on high-protein soft foods and liquids such as eggs, custard, yogurt, pasta, steamed vegetables, and cooked cereals. Avoid spicy, salty, highly acidic, or extremely hot or cold foods.

Removable Dental Appliances:

Refrain from placing any oral appliances over the surgical site to prevent discomfort and ensure proper healing.
